This Leatherworking leveling guide will show you the fastest way how to level your Leatherworking skill up from 1 to 300 as inexpensively as possible.
Professions skills are split between expansions now, you'll have a separate skill bar for each expansion. This guide is for the 'Vanilla' Leatherworking skill in the current retail version of World of Warcraft. I have a separate guide for Classic WoW, so if you are looking for that, visit my Classic WoW Leatherworking Leveling Guide.
Often the materials are based on a case that you will gain one skill point each craft. This won't happen, so you will have to buy a few extra materials while you are leveling your Leatherworking.
I recommend using Zygor's 1-60 Leveling Guide if you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt. The guide is in a small window on your main screen in-game. All the detail that you need to complete the quests are included. You’ll never have to switch back to a website, or even the in-game main map to see where you have to go or what’s next. And if you are low on gold, I recommend trying this Gold Making Guide, it can help you to make a lot of gold.
Approximate Materials Required:
57 Ruined Leather Scraps
15 Medium Hide
260 Light Leather

First, visit any trainer in the main cities of old Azeroth - just ask a guard, and learn Leatherworking.
Check out my Farming Guides if you wan to farm the leathers instead of buying them.
You should start with Light Leather farming if you want to farm the leathers.
NOTE: You can buy the threads, dyes, and salt from Leatherworking Supply vendors near your trainer.
IMPORTANT! Professions skills are split between expansions now in retail WoW, you'll have a separate skill bar for each expansion. This guide is for the 'Vanilla' Leatherworking skill in the current retail version of World of Warcraft.
Visit my Classic WoW Leatherworking Leveling Guide 1-300 if you are looking for the Classic WoW guide.
1-20 19 x [Light Leather] - 57 Ruined Leather Scraps
Make the next recipe if you don't have Ruined Leather Scraps.
20-30 or 1-30 10 x [Light Armor Kit] - 10 Light Leather
Check out my Medium Leather farming guide if you want to farm the leathers.
IMPORTANT! I must also mention that later on you will need 20 Heavy Hide to level leatherworking, and while you farm the hides you will get a bunch of Medium Hide, Medium Leather, and Heavy Leather. I recommend to check out my Heavy Hide farming guide if you have a level 60+ character, and farm the Heavy Hide before you farm Heavy Leather and Medium Leather. Farming the 20 Heavy Hide can take a few hours, so don't forget to check the Auction House, sometimes you can find cheap Heavy Hide.
100-115 Keep the Medium Hides, you will need them.
15 x [Cured Medium Hide] - 15 Medium Hide, 15 Salt
115-130 16 x [Dark Leather Boots] - 64 Medium Leather, 32 Fine Thread, 16 Gray Dye
130-145 15 x [Dark Leather Belt] - 15 Fine Leather Belt, 15 Cured Medium Hide, 30 Fine Thread, 15 Gray Die
Make [Dark Leather Cloak] if you still don't have [Cured Medium Hide].
145-150 5 x [Hillman's Leather Gloves] - 70 Medium Leather, 20 Fine Thread
150-155 5 x [Heavy Leather] - 25 Medium Leather
You can also make the following recipe:
5 x [Heavy Leather Ball] - 10 Heavy Leather, 5 Fine Thread
The pattern is sold by these NPCs.
155 - 200
Check out my Heavy Leather farming guide if you want to farm the leathers.
155-165 You will need the Cured Heavy Hides later.
20 x [Cured Heavy Hide] - 20 Heavy Hide, 60 Salt
If you have Skinning, then visit my Heavy Hide farming guide. Don't forget to check the Auction House, sometimes you can find cheap Heavy Hide.
Below you can find an alternative way if you don't have any Heavy Hides at all, which is usually the case, since Heavy Hide has pretty low drop rate. But if for example you can get 5 Heavy Hides, you should stop making Barbaric Leggings at 195 and start making Guardian Gloves.
155-180 - 30-35 x [Heavy Armor Kit] or [Hillman's Cloak] - 150-175 x Heavy Leather
180-195 - 16 - 22 x [Heavy Scale Pants] - 160-220 x Heavy Leather
195-200 - 6 - 10 x [Barbaric Leggings] - 60-80 x Heavy Leather, 6-8 x Moss Agate
[Pattern: Barbaric Leggings] is sold by these NPCs.
1+1=3 Wine
165-180 20 x [Heavy Armor Kit] - 100 Heavy Leather, 20 Fine Thread
This recipe will be yellow for the last 10 points, so you might have to make more (or fewer).
180-190 10 x [Barbaric Shoulders] - 80 Heavy Leather, 10 Cured Heavy Hide, 20 Fine Thread
190-200 10 x [Guardian Gloves] - 40 Heavy Leather, 10 Cured Heavy Hide, 10 Silken Thread
200 - 250
Check out my Thick Leather farming guide if you want to farm the leathers.
